As a small business owner, the support of sponsors for my events and projects has been a huge help with off-setting my costs, reaching a broader demographic and providing a platform for other entrepreneurs and small business owners when I host events – both virtually and face-to-face.
Events which attract a large number of sponsors are events which involve, either a large number of people or a small group of people with specific interests.
If your event is aimed at a group of people sharing specific interests, your chances of finding a sponsor often increases. Why? Because an advertisement to the right audience is much more valuable than the advertisement to a mass, mixed audience.
If you are thinking of ways to secure sponsors for your next project, there are a few areas you will want to focus on first.
Present a Great Platform
When a business is investing its money and expecting promotion and support, they want to know that they will be highlighted in a positive and professional light. They WILL do their research. Make it easy for them by providing a sponsorship package that includes links to your website and social media accounts. Highlight instances where you received great engagement and, if applicable, spotlighted other businesses so they can see what to expect with a partnership with your business and brand.
Provide Them With What You Have to Offer
Ask yourself, “Why should a business invest in a sponsorship with me?” Honestly assess what you have to offer them that will benefit their business. Wow them by understanding their company’s mission, goals, vision and marketing campaigns and tying that into what your business can offer to enhance that. By knowing their marketing objectives you will be able to cater your conversations and pitch to their needs and provide the ways investing in you will benefit them in the short and long-term.
Know Your Target Audience
It’s important to know not who you want to reach, but who you currently reach and engage on a regular basis. This ensures you are able to partner with sponsors that your audience will respond to favorably. Providing this specific, detailed information to a potential sponsor allows them to provide you with the necessary speaking points to make a sponsorship beneficial for everyone involved.
Depending on the type of event or project that you are working on, sponsors can be a way to truly skyrocket your business and platform. Whether your sponsors work with you short or long-term you want to ensure that you provide them with quality and value.
New to working with sponsors and worried that will be hindrance? Be confident in what you have to offer and provide them with a thorough and detailed plan to show just how amazing you are.
Remember, think about what they’re gaining, how exciting the partnership will be, be inspiring and they will be inspired also!
